Ana Maria Marcu
Ana Maria Marcu was born in Romania and immigrated to Canada with her family in 1999. Ana Maria has recently finished her BFA in Photography at Concordia University in Montreal, she is now pursuing her own professional career as an artist. Currently Marcu is involved in an artist residency at The Lab Program in Mexico City for the month of February 2023. Previously Ana Maria was a studio assistant for artist Alexandra Rose Bischoff over the period of 5 months.
Anas artistic practice is communicated through painting, video and performance, often as self-portraiture. She works with themes of, sexuality, surveillance and immigration. Maria is navigating through her dual identities as a Canadian citizen and Romanian immigrant, using family history, cultural symbolism and the digital space to narrate her experiences. Her work has been shown in: 2021 "Povestea Ie" CPC x Cartier Des Spectacles, 2021 "Maria" Nuit Blanche x Art Matters, 2019 "Seeing Me, Seeing You" Ecole Public x Deneb.
